NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska called for closer cooperation with the European Union during a joint meeting of two European Parliament committees.
She discussed the Hague Summit agreement to raise defence and security investment to 5 percent of gross domestic product by 2035. She said NATO and the EU could cooperate more closely on defence production, critical infrastructure and new military capabilities.
Shekerinska also supported continued aid for Ukraine and greater links between Ukrainian and Allied defence companies. Twenty three of NATO's 32 members also belong to the European Union, making coordination important to avoid gaps and unnecessary duplication.
