Twelve NATO members agreed to develop a shared digital network by 2030 under the Allied Software for Cloud and Edge Services project.
The network is intended to let personnel create, distribute and store classified information securely in the field. It will also support faster data sharing and the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in operations.
Initial funding was set at up to €45 million, with additional national contributions expected. The NATO Communications and Information Agency will manage the project for Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States.
