University teams from Austria, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States tested autonomous drones during a NATO supported competition in Huntsville from 6 to 10 July.
The teams used groups of drones in a simulated tornado disaster to assess damage, search for victims and deliver medical supplies. The event was hosted by the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
The competition was the second of three events under the SAPIENCE research project supported by NATO's Science for Peace and Security Programme. A final event was planned for the Netherlands in 2026.
