Leaders of the Coalition of the Willing said the path to peace in Ukraine cannot be determined without Ukraine, ahead of a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

The coalition said meaningful negotiations should take place in the context of a ceasefire or a lasting and significant cessation of hostilities. It also called for stronger sanctions and economic pressure if Russia refused to halt the fighting.

The leaders reaffirmed that borders cannot be changed by force and said Ukraine requires credible security guarantees, including the ability to maintain capable armed forces and cooperate with third countries.
