The foreign ministers of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and EU High Representative Kaja Kallas issued a joint statement aimed at strengthening foreign and security policy cooperation with the European Economic Area partners.
The statement reflected the close alignment between the EU and the three EEA countries on major international issues, including support for Ukraine, respect for international law and defence of the rules-based international order.
The partners also emphasised the need for closer coordination in a more volatile geopolitical environment. The statement placed foreign and security policy cooperation alongside economic integration as an important part of the wider EEA relationship.
The move showed the EU’s effort to deepen security dialogue with like-minded European partners that are closely integrated with the EU but remain outside the Union’s institutional structure.
