The European Union and India announced plans to carry out a joint naval exercise in the Indian Ocean from 1 to 3 June, deepening maritime security cooperation between the two partners.

The exercise was designed to reinforce practical cooperation at sea and support a shared interest in secure maritime routes. The Indian Ocean is central to global trade and energy flows, making naval coordination increasingly important for the EU and India.

The activity also reflected the EU’s broader Indo-Pacific engagement, where maritime security, freedom of navigation and cooperation with regional partners are major priorities.

The planned exercise showed how the EU is moving from strategic language toward operational cooperation with India, a partner whose role in regional and global security continues to grow.
