The European Union and its Member States promoted a more inclusive approach to the 20-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society.
The EU proposed a multistakeholder mechanism that would allow governments, civil society, technical experts, businesses and other participants to contribute views and expertise to the review process.
Brussels said wider participation could improve transparency, legitimacy and the quality of decisions on internet governance, digital development and the relationship between the information society and the Sustainable Development Goals.
