The European Union expressed concern over declining annual reporting under the Arms Trade Treaty, warning that the reporting rate had reached its lowest recorded level since the treaty entered into force.

The EU called on States Parties that had not yet submitted their 2024 reports to meet their obligations without further delay. It stressed that transparency is a core element of the treaty and an important tool for building confidence among participating states.

Brussels argued that complete and timely reporting also strengthens oversight of the international arms trade and helps identify risks related to diversion and misuse.
