The European Union told a UN Human Rights Council intersessional panel that racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance are incompatible with democratic societies built on equality and human dignity.
The EU pointed to its anti-racism policies and a combination of legislative and non-legislative measures intended to address discrimination. It acknowledged that significant challenges remain despite progress in several areas.
Brussels said combating racism remains a priority and linked the issue directly to the protection of democratic institutions, equal participation and fundamental rights.
