The European Union expressed disappointment after negotiations in Geneva failed to conclude a global legally binding treaty on plastic pollution.

European Commissioner Jessika Roswall said the EU had entered the talks seeking an ambitious agreement addressing the full life cycle of plastics. She acknowledged that the latest draft did not meet all EU demands but said the negotiations had produced a basis for a resumed session.

The EU said it would continue pressing for an agreement that can be strengthened over time and that supports environmental protection, public health and a competitive circular economy.
