High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos issued a joint statement after Albania’s parliamentary elections, welcoming the exercise of democratic rights by Albanian voters.

The EU encouraged Albania to continue reforms required for its path toward membership, including further electoral reform. The statement tied the conduct of elections to the credibility of the accession process and to democratic standards expected of candidate countries.

Kallas and Kos framed Albania’s future within the European Union as dependent on continued progress in rule of law, democratic institutions and reform implementation. The message was supportive but also conditional, reflecting the EU’s enlargement methodology.

The statement placed Albania’s election in a wider regional context, where the EU continues to use enlargement policy both as a political anchor and as an incentive for democratic and institutional transformation.
