European leaders welcomed diplomatic efforts following US President Donald Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska while insisting that Ukraine must be directly involved in decisions about its future.

In a joint statement, leaders said further talks should include President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and expressed readiness to support a possible trilateral summit. They also stressed the need for robust security guarantees for Ukraine.

The statement reaffirmed that international borders must not be changed by force and that Ukraine should retain the freedom to determine its own security arrangements and European future.
