High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas announced travel to Singapore and the Philippines, signalling the EU’s continued focus on the Indo-Pacific.

The visit was linked to the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore and to high-level engagement in Manila. It reflected the EU’s intention to deepen security and political cooperation with partners in a region central to trade, maritime security and global strategic competition.

Kallas’ programme was expected to address regional security, the rules-based international order, maritime issues and cooperation with like-minded partners. The trip also connected the EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy with its wider foreign and security policy priorities.

The travel announcement showed that the EU is seeking a more visible security role in Asia while maintaining diplomacy on global issues such as Ukraine, multilateralism and regional stability.
