High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas held a press conference in Belgrade, describing Serbia’s European path as a strategic choice that requires reforms and alignment with EU principles.
Kallas said it was important to be in Serbia and to discuss directly with the country’s leadership and public. Her remarks addressed Serbia’s EU perspective, regional stability, foreign policy alignment and the importance of democratic standards.
The visit came at a time when the EU continued to press Serbia on rule of law, media freedom, relations with Kosovo and alignment with EU foreign policy, including sanctions linked to Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Kallas’ message combined encouragement with pressure: Serbia’s future can be European, but progress depends on credible reforms and decisions that demonstrate alignment with the Union’s values and strategic direction.
