The European Commission has approved €125.81 million in grants for three cross-border renewable energy projects involving Germany, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania, aimed at cleaner district heating and new wind power infrastructure.

The largest award, €70 million, goes to the UNITED HEAT project linking Görlitz in Germany and Zgorzelec in Poland, including a cross-border pipeline connecting the two district heating systems.

A further €11.41 million will support the TWIN HEAT project between Poland and Frankfurt, Germany, replacing coal-fired heat generation with biomass boilers, while a third award of €44.40 million supports a cross-border wind park near the Latvia-Lithuania border expected to produce up to 680 GWh annually.

The Commission said the projects are intended to contribute to EU decarbonisation goals while strengthening energy integration, security of supply and cooperation between Member States.
