The European Commission has published a draft list of non-OECD countries that could remain authorised to receive certain waste exports from the European Union under the bloc's revised waste shipment rules, alongside an assessment concerning plastic waste exports to Türkiye.
The work forms part of the EU's effort to ensure that waste exported outside the Union is managed in an environmentally sound manner and does not shift pollution or treatment problems to recipient countries.
The revised Waste Shipment Regulation strengthens conditions governing exports and supports the EU's wider circular economy objectives, with plastic waste exports attracting particular attention over treatment capacity and recycling quality.
The measures sit within the EU's broader transition toward a circular economy and its goal of improving the environmental performance of material use and waste treatment.
