The European Commission has announced more than EUR 210 million in additional funding to enable over 700 researchers to develop their careers in Europe, expanding one of the EU's principal programmes for scientific mobility and research careers.
The additional investment will be channelled through the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, or MSCA, under the Commission's Choose Europe initiative, intended to strengthen Europe's ability to attract and retain researchers while supporting scientific cooperation, innovation and career development.
Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said researchers are choosing Europe, adding that Europe offers an environment where talent and ideas can thrive, as the EU seeks to reinforce its position as an international destination for scientists amid growing global competition for research talent.
The Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions have supported researchers from around the world for three decades, financing research training, mobility and career development while encouraging cooperation between universities, research institutions and other organisations.
The latest allocation is expected to create opportunities for more than 700 additional researchers to establish or advance their careers within European research institutions.
