The European Commission presented a Water Resilience Investment Accelerator designed to support 20 pilot projects addressing water efficiency, natural water retention and clean water technologies.
The programme, delivered through Green Assist under InvestEU and financed by the LIFE programme, aims to bring investors together with project developers and sectors facing water-related challenges.
The Commission estimates that implementing existing EU water legislation requires approximately €23 billion in additional investment annually. The accelerator will focus on making promising projects more attractive to private finance and demonstrating approaches that could be replicated elsewhere.
The initiative forms part of the European Water Resilience Strategy, which seeks to protect ecosystems, improve water security and strengthen the capacity of communities and businesses to manage droughts and floods.
