The European Commission convened an international dialogue in Brussels on using satellite technologies to strengthen disaster prevention and emergency response.

Participants examined how Earth observation, navigation and communications systems can support forecasting, hazard monitoring, early warnings and assessments of damage after emergencies.

The discussions produced a framework titled Compass on Space and Disaster Risk Management, identifying opportunities for technical cooperation, training and more effective sharing of information.

The initiative emphasised that satellite observations must be translated into warnings and practical decisions that communities and emergency responders can act on.
