Local and regional leaders were invited to Brussels for the 2026 EU Covenant of Mayors Ceremony on 15 October, with discussions focusing on affordable energy, housing and climate resilience.

The event was designed to bring municipal representatives together with European policymakers to exchange practical experience in clean energy projects and adaptation to extreme weather.

The Covenant of Mayors network includes thousands of European cities and towns committed to energy and climate action. Local governments play an important role in building renovation, public services and emergency preparedness.

Additional discussions were planned on energy poverty and the need to ensure that households can access affordable energy during the transition to cleaner systems.
