The European Commission and Ireland convened a two-day conference in Brussels to examine measures for protecting humanitarian workers amid rising attacks and insecurity.
The event brought together officials, humanitarian organisations and people affected by attacks to discuss prevention, accountability and support for frontline responders.
The Commission cited 1,187 humanitarian personnel killed, injured, kidnapped or detained worldwide in 2025 and highlighted the disproportionate risks faced by national and local aid workers.
The programme addressed security threats, the protection of medical personnel, support for survivors and the need for humanitarian organisations to maintain access to people requiring urgent assistance.
