NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska visited Armenia for discussions on the country’s partnership with NATO, regional stability and the normalisation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. During the visit, she met Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, Defence Minister Suren Papikyan and Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan.
Shekerinska described NATO-Armenia relations as a long-standing partnership built on political dialogue and practical cooperation. She highlighted work related to the modernisation of Armenia’s armed forces, good governance in the defence and security sectors, defence education and scientific cooperation.
The Deputy Secretary General also praised Armenian personnel serving with NATO-led KFOR in Kosovo under a United Nations mandate. NATO said the partnership is mutually agreed and based on Armenia’s own priorities, with Allies prepared to deepen cooperation where both sides see value.
Regional diplomacy was also discussed. Shekerinska welcomed steps taken by Armenia and Azerbaijan toward a peace agreement and stressed that implementation of the peace agenda would contribute not only to regional stability but also to wider Euro-Atlantic security.
