NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska attended the 32nd Ministerial Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in Vienna, using the meeting to emphasize the continuing importance of NATO-OSCE cooperation.
Shekerinska referred to the principles established in the 1975 Helsinki Final Act and argued that those commitments remain central to the European security order. She said violations of the principles have direct consequences for security across the OSCE area and beyond.
Russia’s war against Ukraine was a central part of her remarks. Shekerinska accused Moscow of violating commitments made under the Helsinki framework and also highlighted the importance of conventional arms-control arrangements that reduce military risk, prevent misunderstanding and rebuild confidence.
On the margins of the ministerial, she met OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and Japanese Vice Foreign Minister Tomoaki Shimada. She also briefed Allied ambassadors in Austria on NATO priorities following the Hague Summit.
