NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska completed a three-day visit to the United States with engagements in Boston and Washington focused on transatlantic unity, defence investment, democratic oversight and support for Ukraine.

At Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center, Shekerinska spoke to students about the security challenges facing NATO and argued that the Alliance’s strength comes from Europe and North America acting together. She later addressed the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s Transatlantic Forum and met members of the US Congress, including Mike Turner and Donald Norcross.

Her Washington programme also included an Aspen Security Forum discussion covering defence spending, industrial production, Russia and continued military assistance to Ukraine. Shekerinska highlighted the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List as an important mechanism for obtaining essential US-made equipment financed by European Allies and Canada.

The visit was also intended to reinforce political support for NATO in the United States ahead of the 2026 Ankara Summit. Shekerinska said greater European responsibility and a strong US commitment should be viewed as mutually reinforcing rather than contradictory.
