NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte joined European and Allied leaders in Paris for a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing focused on efforts to secure a just and lasting end to the war against Ukraine. The meeting was co-hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Rutte welcomed progress on practical arrangements intended to support Ukraine in the event of a future peace settlement. He also praised United States efforts aimed at advancing negotiations and highlighted the willingness of Allies to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine.
At the same time, the Secretary General stressed that discussions about future guarantees cannot replace present military support. Ukraine, he said, continues to face significant requirements while defending itself against Russian attacks, and Allied assistance therefore remains necessary.
The meeting reflected a broader effort by European states and NATO Allies to connect immediate military assistance with longer-term planning for Ukraine’s security. Rutte urged countries participating in the coalition to maintain their contributions while diplomatic efforts continue.
