NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte travelled to Poland for meetings with President Karol Nawrocki and Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz before visiting Allied troops stationed at the Bemowo Piskie training area.

At Bemowo Piskie, Rutte met personnel serving in NATO’s Forward Land Forces battlegroup. The multinational formation includes troops from the United States, Romania, Croatia, the United Kingdom and Poland and forms part of NATO’s strengthened deterrence and defence posture on its eastern flank.

Rutte praised Poland’s military expansion and high level of defence investment, noting that Warsaw was spending more than 4.5 percent of GDP on defence and planned to raise that level further in 2026. He described Poland as a major contributor to Allied security on land, at sea and in the air.

The Secretary General also thanked the troops who would remain deployed during the holiday period. He said their presence demonstrates that NATO’s forward defence commitments are supported by multinational forces prepared to operate together.
