NATO and South Korean military representatives met in Seoul this month to widen practical cooperation between the alliance and Seoul, in talks again led by NATO's Brigadier General Unguder Eray alongside South Korean Major General Kwon Young Min.

Officials on both sides pointed to the tightening link between Indo-Pacific and Euro-Atlantic security as the rationale for closer ties, exchanging ideas on joint exercises, training and professional courses the two militaries might run together. The NATO delegation also held a separate meeting with French Ambassador Philippe Bertoux while in Seoul.

South Korea's relationship with NATO dates to 2005 and already spans cyber security and emerging technology; the previous round of staff talks was held in Brussels in May 2024.
