The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to spread despite progress in containing transmission in some affected areas, prompting United Nations health and humanitarian officials to renew calls for international support.

Responders are working to identify cases, trace contacts, isolate patients and strengthen community awareness while maintaining infection prevention measures in health facilities already under pressure from limited access to medical services and essential infrastructure.

UN agencies have stressed that rapid detection, safe treatment, vaccination where appropriate and trusted communication with communities remain central to limiting further transmission, as health workers also face the challenge of maintaining routine services.

The situation adds to humanitarian pressures in DR Congo, where conflict, displacement and weak health infrastructure have repeatedly complicated responses to infectious disease outbreaks, with the UN saying continued international financing will be essential to sustain the response.
