United Nations human rights monitors reported a new surge in civilian harm across Ukraine while renewed fighting in Yemen displaced tens of thousands of people, adding to humanitarian pressures in two prolonged conflicts.

In Ukraine, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission recorded at least 200 civilians killed and 1,234 injured between 1 and 24 September, with Russian attacks involving missiles, drones and guided aerial bombs damaging homes, hospitals and workplaces.

In Yemen, UN human rights officials said around 125,000 people have been displaced by renewed fighting between Houthi forces and forces aligned with the internationally recognised government, with OHCHR documenting 32 civilian deaths since the beginning of August, including 15 children and three women.

The UN called on all sides to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, and repeated demands for humanitarian access and the release of 73 UN personnel and others arbitrarily detained by the Houthis in Yemen, some for years.
