A midpoint assessment of the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing has found that more countries are taking action to improve the lives of older people, while warning that longer lives will not automatically become healthier and more dignified without stronger and sustained investment.
The Secretary-General transmitted the mid-term progress report on the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing 2021-2030 to the 81st session of the General Assembly. The report was prepared by the World Health Organization in coordination with the UN system.
The assessment brings together contributions from thirteen UN entities, the World Bank Group and civil society partners, reviewing progress at the halfway point of the global initiative and identifying areas where countries need to accelerate efforts to ensure older people can live healthier and more secure lives.
