The World Health Organization warned of a worsening cholera outbreak in Yemen as conflict-related displacement, unsafe water and disrupted health services increased exposure to infectious diseases. More than 200,000 people were reported displaced across 10 governorates following renewed fighting.
WHO surveillance figures cited in the report showed suspected cholera cases rising from 217 during 6–12 September to 647 during 27 September–3 October. The country had recorded 8,034 suspected cases and 27 associated deaths since the start of 2026, with a large concentration in southwestern governorates.
Measles remained another serious concern, particularly for children whose routine immunisation and healthcare had been interrupted. WHO reported more than 22,800 suspected measles cases and 128 associated deaths in 2026.
The agency appealed for funding to maintain treatment centres, surveillance, medical supplies and rapid-response teams. It also warned that the arrival of displaced people in neighbouring Djibouti was placing additional pressure on local healthcare services.
