A United Nations social development report warned that people experiencing poverty are often excluded from the benefits of economic growth, digital technologies and the transition to clean energy.

The report cited approximately 887 million people experiencing multidimensional poverty who were exposed to at least one major climate hazard. It also drew attention to billions of people without reliable internet access and the barriers facing young people and women in employment.

The assessment examined the importance of education, healthcare, social protection and affordable energy in enabling people to benefit from economic transformation.

It called for earlier investment in inclusive policies and stronger international financing arrangements to help developing economies respond to environmental and technological change.
