Children and young people across Uganda are calling for climate policies that protect their health, education, access to water, food security and safety as droughts, floods and other climate hazards increasingly affect daily life.
The demands were highlighted through Uganda’s Local Conference of Youth and Children on Climate Change 2026, supported by the Government of Uganda, UNICEF, UNDP, GIZ, the United Kingdom Embassy, youth networks and other partners.
UNICEF said children from drought-affected Karamoja, flood-prone areas including Teso and Busoga, refugee-hosting settlements in Isingiro and youth platforms in West Nile are contributing their experiences and proposals. The initiative is intended to ensure that children and young people have a meaningful role in shaping climate responses that directly affect their future.
